When I went looking for a summer job or an internship for 2021 I did not expect to end up at Ride for Joy. Despite this, I am so glad that I did. I am a student at the University of Idaho working toward a degree in Rangeland Management. I hope to eventually work for the Bureau of Land Management, within their wild horse and burro management program. Being an Equine and Barn Management intern with Ride for Joy was one of the best summer experiences I have ever had. It allowed me to not only work with horses which I love to do, but it also helped me gain experience working with students while around horses. I know how much joy horses brought to me when I was younger, and how much they still do, and it was amazing being able to help others have that joy. One of my favorite times at Ride for Joy was the All Abilities Camp, where current students as well as their siblings could come out and enjoy the horses and go for a ride. Campers were able to have a ton of fun hanging out with or riding the horses, as well as some other activities. I helped out with the painting a horse station, and the smiles on the kiddos' faces were priceless as they got to create amazing pictures on the horses. As a kid my favorite parts of camp would be riding and painting a horse. It is something that would normally not be allowed on a regular day, so it makes it even more exciting when you’re able to paint a horse. Overall, I had an amazing time at Ride for Joy, whether it be through getting to know the horses, the staff, and the volunteers, or through helping riders discover an amazing experience.
Thank you!
